.PDF Versus .DOC - Which Is Better For Resumes?

A job seeking Community Business College graduate called our offices (we always offer follow-up assistance as part of our courses) and asked for some advice – Should she send her resume to a potential employer using in the Microsoft Word format or should she send it as an Adobe Acrobat .pdf file?

 Word Versus Acrobat
Our advice to her was to send a second e-mail using the pdf format.

So just what are the rules on file attachment in sending your resume to employers?

First, there’s the

The Golden Rule For Sending Resumes

The golden rule on resume attachments is – first always do what the employer asks. If the employer asks for resumes but “no attachments,” for example, then do not attach anything, but copy and paste your resume. If the employer asks for “no Word documents,” then do not send word documents.

Unless otherwise directed (remember the Golden Rule), Community Business College recommends using the .pdf format when submitting resumes.

Boise Fireworx 20lb Letter-sized Powder Pink and Boise Fireworx 20lb letter sized Pumpkin Glow papers

Review courtesy of: Community Business College

We purchased the Boise Fireworx 20lb Letter powder pink paper for flyers we were printing to advertise a new funding program called MyCAA for our distance learning training programs. The paper worked well in our high speed copier/printer and held both laser and inkjet inks well.

The paper color made a nice contrast with black and grayscale artwork and holds up well to sunlight, as far as we can tell.
The only drawback was it felt flimsier than other paper we use. As I mentioned earlier, it wasn't bad to the point of it jamming in the printing machines it was just the paper feel after it printed. It felt lighter than other flyers we've had.
Overall, this was a good paper with a nice hue and we will definitely purchase again.

We also tried the Boise Fireworx 20lb letter sized Pumpkin Glow paper for a mailer our school was sending to advertise a new tuition funding for our training programs. The paper has a very distinct hue, which is important for this project. The paper went through our high-speed copier/printer and held both laser and inkjet inks well. We ran heavy black content and it really popped when you opened the envelope. The pumpkin glow color didn't fade and seems to hold up well to sunlight, as far as we can tell.
We were impressed that it didn't jam at all in the printing machines. We also appreciated the recycled content.
Overall, this was a good paper with a great color. We will be purchasing the pumpkin glow again, especially for use in Autumn and Halloween.

Stats:
Compatible with all printers and office equipment. Acid-free for archival-quality. Indicated recycled paper contains Post-consumer recycled content: 30%. Total recycled content: 30%.
Model: MP2201PKN

Alternative Way To Clean White Boards

Today we had a white board that needed some cleaning. It had some marks that had been on it for a looong time. As luck would have it, we were out of cleaner with class almost ready to start.

Then, a stroke of inspiration - we had plenty of hand sanitizer. What's in the cleaner fluid? Alcohol. What's in hand sanitizer? Alcohol.

Worked!

Tried a little in a corner and it came right off. Used a paper towel and scrubbed the whole board in a minute or two. The stuff was scented so that was a bonus!

M & M Earbuds?

M and M earbuds might look like a cte idea sitting on the shelf but do you realy want to walk around with pieces of candy sticking out of ears? Of course therer are fans of M and Ms who will buy anything with the M and M logo on it. Ollectors, too. But for every day use seems like you cand find something better. Besides, is it really a wise idea for little children to see people walking with M and Ms in their ear canals?
All of this before even considering their sound quality.

Which Office Supplies Are Best

Does it matter where you buy your office supplies? Sometimes. Paper clips are pretty straight forward and simple and have such a limited workload it doesn't make much difference if you get them from a dollar store or a warehouse. A stapler, on the other hand, gets a lot of punishment and going for a little more expense (a metal one vs. plastic) is worth the money.
